Being ‘independent’ should mean just that.
We don’t vote party lines.
We often tilt at windmills. Perhaps too often we root for the underdog.
We do not accept that might makes right. Sticks and stones may break our bones … but being ‘independent’ means that you don’t check the party ticket to see who you are voting for.
