“Posse Comitatus” is already gone; yes U.S. troops are allowed to fight the American people on U.S. soil! What this has to do with stopping non U.S. citizens from crossing our borders is beyond me. As of late, we now face the fact that as citizens of this great nation we can be arrested and kept locked up by our military for as long as they like without due process, constitution or not. As for your comments on gun control and keeping Thomas Jefferson in mind as to his thoughts on the subject. The second amendment should be followed as written, "shall not be infringed". No one said liberty comes without a price, the greater our liberty, the greater the price! I will not give up my freedom for the promise of safety provided by our government! I think you know the quote that goes along with this, something about soon you will have neither!

If you haven't read Dr. Tom Barnett's "The Pentagon's New Map", now would be a good time. He explains how to do both. I remember tracking down Dr. Barnett in China and bringing him to the newly created DNI's office for advice after 9/11.

In order for Romney to continue to be the top choice, he needs to win NH overwhelmingly. If he wins by only a few percentage points, this will increase the likelihood that more players remain in the game. It would indicate that nation still hasn't made it's mind and a dark horse could still win the nomination for president.

The national debt paydown and surplus at the end of Clinton's term is a bit of tricky accounting business.

Growth of national debt between 1997 and 2001 did slow significantly. Only $394 billion in new debt was booked during those four years. Debt had crawled to almost a halt by 2000. Debt slowed so much that the national debt clock was actually discontinued as the surpluses were predicted to be capable of eliminating national debt by 2010.

The Clinton surplus was real between 1998-2000 ... depending upon how you define 'surplus'. Since the National Debt Clock never actually reversed and just came to a halt then it can be argued that there was no surplus. If you consider that some of that debt did not have to be paid back for several decades then 'due now' accounting rules showed a surplus (a large amount of the debt was in long term Treasury Notes not due until later). A logical argument can be made both ways.

Bottomline: Whenever someone declares something to be a fact we should demand to see the math and to know what 'critical assumptions' went into the pretzel logic behind it.

Good thoughts, Bill!! Of course, you know what they say about the "Big Lie".
Anyway, I guess this also debunks the 'surplus' that Bill Clinton is credited for. I take comfort in the fact that this country usually surprises its detractors. While there was a 'projected' BUDGET surplus under Clinton that Bush 'squandered', this gives me hope that once again, we have a chance to outperform the bleak economic forecasts.
